Literotica has been publishing adult interactive stories since the 1990s. We were not the first website to publish Adult IF, but we are proud to have been an early proponent of the format.

In the early days of the 1990s, we would hand code every single page of every interactive story that was submitted to Literotica for publication. Each choice in the story would lead to a new HTML page, which would have more choices leading to more HTML pages. There were some interactive stories in those days that contained hundreds or even thousands of individual HTML pages.

In the 2000s, new technology arrived that made it easier to create interactive adult stories without static HTML pages. We replaced our initial IF tech with a more modern version in the early 2000s. Eventually, that technology also became outdated, slow, and difficult for both authors and the site admins to manage.

Several years ago, we began work on the third generation of Literotica interactive fiction technology. This new technology uses state of the art gaming features to blur the line between adult interactive fiction, visual novels, and other indie games. The new Literotica Story Games were available to a limited audience of authors and readers during the BETA. We are excited to announce that everyone can now both read and create adult interactive fiction at Literotica using our new system.
